This August, Renee and I had the pleasure of creating florals for the wedding of Carmen and Inaki on the Bride’s family ranch near Cultus Lake. The large property overlooked fields of hay, grazing horses, and BC’s spectacular mountains as a backdrop. The bride and groom’s inspiration was drawn from the colour palette of the land, featuring sandy beiges, pops of light white, purple and peach to match the wildflowers that grow naturally on the property. Renee and I brought plenty of flowers from the studio, but most of the materials used in the wedding came from the ranch itself. We foraged wild hops, dagger fern, moss, elderflower, clematis, thistle, grasses, and vines in an astounding abundance. We were so excited to use the family’s orchard, which was ripe with boughs of ripe plums, apricots and pears. The family of the Bride and Groom assisted with everything from the wedding dress to the napkins, tealights and many small details that made this wedding one of the sweetest I have seen. Carmen and Inaki’s special day was shot by up and coming Vancouver photograher Aneta Michniak.
Renee and I arrived 4 days before the wedding to begin our foraging adventure.
Loads of seeded and blooming Elderflower were one of our favourites.
We set up shop in front of the barn, as the weather was promising rain. On a makeshift table of hay bales and barn boards, we began our arrangements! We used vintage silver goblets, mixed with mercury glass votives for small posies for the tables.
The large arrangements for each table were made from plum branches and foraged hops vine.
On the wedding day, Renee and I were busy bees setting up the florals in the gorgeous tent for the reception. With 22 tables, we had our work cut out for us!
Every arrangement we made was individual and unique, and were arranged on each table in a colour gradient from dark to light.
After our hard work was done, we got to enjoy the wedding as well! Carmen and Inaki welcomed us with open arms, and plenty of thanks.
Aneta and her assistant Megan took some amazing photos which definitely capture the mood of the day.
Thank you to the Alvarez and Gomez Families for having us!
