When asked to define the “West Coast” style, what qualities come to mind? Perhaps urban minimalism with a dash of whimsicality. The definitive “West Coast” style seems to be ever-changing in the city of Vancouver, but Simply Rose Photography managed to capture the essence of the 21st century West Coast style with this inspired shoot.
Set in a heavily concreted room, photographer Rose Dykstra opted for a neutral palette that blends in the soft pastels of the flowers, creamy texture of the linens and the cool grey concrete of the environment.
The vintage style centrepiece comprises of various rose breeds; white and pink Ohara, coral Spray Roses, Queen Spray Roses and Quicksand Roses. Smaller blooms include white and pink Lisianthus, cream Anemone, white Ranunculus. Pink Hyacinths were also used as line flowers to increase the arrangement’s width. To compliment the pastel palette of the arrangement, soft toned foliage were used. Various eucalyptus; Seeded, Baby and Silver Dollar Eucalyptus, combined with Fern and Dusty miller create a greyish silver tinge to the arrangement.
The groom’s boutonniere takes after a similar recipe as the centrepiece, using only one large bloom of Cream Anemone, complimented by several stems of Eucalyptus and Dusty Miller leaves. (Also note the white cotton rope wrapping, how West Coast is that!)
The bridal bouquet adopted a similar recipe as the centrepiece, with a heavier emphasis on cream coloured flowers than peaches. Some of the roses used in this bouquet are white Ohara and Queen Spray Roses. Other cream coloured flowers include white Ranunculus, Flocks, Anemone and Stocks. Adding a dash of blush tone to the bouquet are pink Hyacinths and pink Ohara roses.
